The ESTnet needs passionate and determined individuals from the technology industry to be part of a new Skills Panel that aims to improve skill levels in Wales.
Technology currently contributes £8.5bn per annum to the Welsh economy, and is forecast to grow at 7% per annum for the next 3 years. To help reach our potential as a nation technology companies need access to quality local talent. Skills development, particularly higher level skills must be a priority.
Research tells us that skills gaps and hard to fill vacancies are key issues faced by technology companies. We need representatives from those companies to help us address this.
The ESTnet Skills Panel will work to provide Welsh solutions to key issues faced by the industry, including:
- How to work with the education sector to ensure that students are equipped with digital skills needed by industry.
- How to attract the best young people to study STEM subjects ready for a career in technology.
- How to work together to address ongoing training needs for current employers.
The above is just a start, we are open to suggestions based on member priorities. This group, open to ESTnet members, will focus on what we can do as an industry to ensure we have the skills available to compete at a global level.
