Caroline Thompson, CEO of Be The Spark CIC, has joined the ESTnet Board joining recent co-optees Nia Davies from Davlec, Ben Dowding of TDI and Ben Milsom.
Be The Spark is a movement designed to connect like-minded people and to bring together innovation and entrepreneurship. It aims to build a community that will help transform Wales, inspire the next generation and ultimately trigger more start-ups, more innovation & commercialisation, more opportunities and more jobs.
Prior to taking up her position with BeTheSpark, Caroline was the NatWest lead for the Entrepreneurial Spark accelerator hubs in both Bristol & Cardiff. Caroline has over 28 years of experience in banking with NatWest in variety of roles – cross division - ranging from Risk & Regulation to Human Resources, and 12 years of experience in leading teams.
Caroline joins three recently appointed co-optees who were appointed in autumn 2017 to help ensure that the ESTnet Board is representative of the rapidly evolving tech industry in Wales.
Nia Davies is Managing Director of Davlec Limited in Welshpool. Since taking over as MD in 2002 Nia has diversified the company’s portfolio, building on its Agro-electronics base to include high-end catering equipment, Hi-Fi and healthcare electronics, as well as extending the range of notable automotive clients.
Ben Dowding, Managing Director of Taylor Dowding based near Flint in north Wales. Ben’s role includes all of the financial, operational sales and marketing aspects for TDI. Key recent product developments include a Marine Biology research camera, an ATEX approved Portable Gas Detector and Scott Sight™, an industry first in-mask display for firefighters with mask attached thermal imaging camera.
Ben Milsom is Managing Director of an award-winning social media discovery software platform Echosec.
After completing a Civil Engineering at Cardiff University, Ben joined the Alacrity Foundation tech incubator. Following this Ben was appointed the Managing Director of Echosec UK, Ben has previously sat on the board of the Newport Regeneration Taskforce, and has a keen interest in matters relating to South Wales, particularly software and tech related.
Long-standing Board member Christian Coates, was also recently appointed as co-Chair, joining Chris Meadows of IQE plc. Christian is Managing Director of Method4 Ltd, a software house and technology consultancy based in Cardiff. Co-founded by Christian in 2005, it delivers bespoke software and integration services.
