After a hectic June, this ESTnet Summer Business Networking meeting was a more informal gathering, giving members and guests a chance to catch up over a drink and buffet at a sun-drenched SWALEC Stadium.
Not that the evening lacked quality content from the stage. Chris Meadows, ESTnet Board member and Head of Open Innovation at IQE, spoke about plans to create the world’s first compound semiconductor in Wales, and the opportunities this could bring to the wider industry. A key milestone has been reached in the project with launch of a joint venture with Cardiff University to lead the development and commercialisation of compound semiconductor technologies in Europe.
The popular ‘elevator pitch’ slots were taken by Harding Evans Solicitors who spoke about exciting new developments in the company which will have major customer benefits; Torchwood Technologies, innovative manufacturers of rugged RFID tags and barcode labels; and Nudjed, providers of an automated service that measures organisational health and tailors advice on an individual level.
The ESTnet Managing Director Avril Lewis said,
“ Our members tell us that one of the main reasons for joining the ESTnet are the networking opportunities. Therefore evenings such as this are important, the informal contacts made here can blossom into future partnerships, something we know is happening. I have had feedback already this evening that new contacts have been made that will be followed up with a view to working together in the future.
It is also an opportunity to update members on our recent progress and to look ahead. I would urge members to ensure they have their say in our ICT Impact project, and I look forward to working with them in the near future on exciting activity such as SkillsCymru, the ESTnet Awards 2016 and others.”
The next ETSnet business networking evening will be held on the evening of Venturefest Wales 2015 on 29 September at the SWALEC stadium.
